What: Healer’s Row Presented by WeCanRow DC

Details: Discover the healing power and joy of rowing, the ultimate team sport, as an adjunct to medical breast cancer treatment and physical therapy.  Personal instruction by Holly Metcalf, Olympic Gold Medalist, and Founder of WeCanRow -- National. Registration required. www.wecanrowdc.org


What: Healing in African Rituals & Culture Workshop
When: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 11AM-1PM
Where: Washington Cancer Institute at Washington Hospital Center: Seigel Auditoruim Room 1221

Details: FREE. Participants will be introduced to a range of African healing rituals, stories and movement that help heal the body and spirit.  We will unite in a djembe drumming circle and learn basic drumming techniques as we move to the drum's healing heartbeat.  Funded by a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts is a Washington DC-based, non-denominational, 501(c)3 nonprofit. We welcome people of all races and religious traditions. Smith Farm Center has been awarded the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation Virginia Kelly Award for Excellence in Cancer Survivorship in 1997 and 1998, the 2004 Innovations Award by the Washington Cancer Institute at Washington Hospital Center and has been designated as a Catalogue for Philanthropy Charity. Smith Farm Center provides scholarship assistance for our programs on a needs basis, whenever possible.
